On a hot summer day, traditional roofs can reach temperatures as high as 190° Fahrenheit...
A cool roof will not reach temperatures above 120°.
WHAT IS A COOL ROOF?

The term "cool roof" refers to roofing material with high solar reflectance, and often, high thermal emittance. The smooth, bright white surface reflects solar radiation and releases a large percentage of absorbed heat, reducing heat transfer to the interior of the building and reducing air conditioning demands.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

In less than one week, we quietly apply a layered system of EnergyStar approved acrylic coatings, with an imbedded layer of woven synthetic fabric, to the existing flat roof.

WHAT DOES THIS SYSTEM DO?
  • Repairs existing leaks
  • Prevents future leaks (with a 10 year warranty)
  • Significantly improves the energy efficiency, and thus energy costs, of the building
  • Reduces the city's overall heat island effect and environmental impact
PROGRAM DETAILS

Civic Works' Cool Roofs program is a project in our commitment to energy efficiency and community service in Baltimore. Using an innovative and well-tested roofing process, we create roofs that improve individual buildings' energy efficiency and decrease the city's overall heat island effect.

Thanks to a grant from the Maryland Affordable Housing Trust, Civic Works has applied cool roofs to a number of low-income homes requiring service by the City's Weatherization Office.

Civic Works also provides this service to individual homes and businesses. For an estimate or more information, including studies about the positive effects of cool roofs, contact Kristin Richards at krichards@civicworks.com or 410-366-8533.
