Baltimore County AVID

Civic Works corpsmembers work in Baltimore County Public Schools’ Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program. AVID corpsmembers work with 5,800 students in 22 High Schools and 6 Middle Schools who are performing in the academic middle and can become college ready with assistance. They provide in-classroom tutoring; promote advanced placement classes and college awareness; help students develop time management and note-taking skills; and develop strategies to improve math, language arts and critical thinking.

Every year, between 98% and 99% of AVID seniors graduate from high school and are accepted into college. 46% of AVID students enroll in Advanced Placement Classes and have a 95% pass rate. A higher percentage of AVID students pass the reading, math and science High School Assessments then non-AVID students.
