Baltimore County AVID
Civic Works corpsmembers work in Baltimore County Public Schools’ Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program. AVID corpsmembers work with 5,800 students in 29 middle and high schools who are performing in the academic middle and can become college ready with assistance. They provide in-classroom tutoring; promote advanced placement classes and college awareness; help students develop time management and note-taking skills; and develop strategies to improve math, language arts and critical thinking.
Every year, between 98% and 99% of AVID seniors graduate from high school and are accepted into college. 46% of AVID students enroll in Advanced Placement Classes and have a 95% pass rate. A higher percentage of AVID students pass the reading, math and science High School Assessments then non-AVID students.
