Celebration of Service
On October 16, 2008, Civic Works hosted our first annual Celebration of Service. The event recognizes the accomplishments of Civic Works’ volunteers and the role companies have played in improving Baltimore’s communities. The 2008 Celebration of Service, which was sponsored by The Brown Advisory, established the Samuel Hopkins Lifetime of Service Award and the Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award.
The Samuel Hopkins Lifetime of Service Award is named for Civic Works friend, founding board member, philanthropist and the leader behind the restoration of Clifton Mansion. The first recipient of this award was Mary Louise Preis, who has distinguished herself as an elected official, corporate leader, champion of philanthropy and Civic Works’ board member.
The Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award honors an employee of a corporate partner who has demonstrated a commitment to community service. The first recipient of this award was John Cavanaugh of Johnson Controls, Inc. for his work with the Baltimore Conservation Leadership Program.
